Vegas is Changing Before Our Soon-to-be-Thirsty Eyes

Vegas in everyone’s favorite place! So why is it making a lot of people sad? We know why – because the casinos are apparently stopping their complimentary drinks. One of the best things about Vegas is the free cocktails you always get on the floor. No matter how much you play, at least that one drink makes you happy.

Vegas runs on booze and money. If you take away the free booze, will it take away the money? Food for thought! Getting a free drink makes you feel marginally better if you’ve lost a lot of money. Ironically, this free drink tradition goes way back; but is being changed now.

Why Are They Changing the Drink Policy?

Casinos are revisiting their profits. Guess what? The free cocktails, not unlike those presented in this infographic, are a burden on their profit margin! Vegas Casinos have decided that the billions they make out of high rollers aren’t enough – they want to cut out the free drinks to increase profit!

The LA Times recently reported that MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment are now trying to track spending habits of players to serve them drinks based on how much money they spend. This assessment has had a trial run on technology driven machines like the video poker machines only. However, if technology picks up, very soon this tracking mechanism will be applied to the poker and blackjack tables next.

How Does this Policy Work?

The drinks policy is quite ingenious. Caesars Entertainment surprised us by installing lights on their video poker machines. Once players wager a certain amount, the light flips to green indicating that they are now eligible to receive a free drink.

Similarly, MGM took the policy a step further. Their machines print out a free drinks voucher which can be used at the in house bar.  We wonder what the rest of the casinos will do next.

Let Vegas be Vegas and Let Us Gamble in Peace

We hate this new drink policy. Why do we hate it? It’s like giving a tax break to high rollers who don’t really care about free drinks. They have enough money to spend on staying in the best places in Vegas and don’t need that free cocktail. Apart from this, they also get amazing treatment from the casinos like free suites, free tickets to the best shows, and so on.

Regular earning folks don’t stand a chance against this treatment. Most of us save money to go on a trip to Vegas. If we’re losing at the casino, the least we could have looked forward to was a free cocktail!

Here’s What We’re Going to Do

We are going to carry Hip Flasks! Chic, fashionable, and discreet, hip flasks are the solution to our drink policy woes. Seriously, there are so many types of flasks out there, everyone can find the right type of hip flask. Ladies, that includes you. Tons of girly flasks out there, like this garter flask from Flaskaholic, as part of their buying guide.

Then, after you purchased a flask or two, when you reach Vegas, visit local liquor shops and pick up your drinks of choice. Check in to your hotel room, and mix your drinks before you step out. If you’re feeling particularly courageous, then carry 2-3 hip flasks.

Planning to casino hop? No problem. You can head back to your room for a refill, and head out to the next stop. If you’re wondering how to clean your hip flask, worry not, it’s pretty easy and quick – some hot water mixed with lemon will do the work.

Hip flasks are our solution to the tyranny that we’re going to face once we enter the casino. Beat it by simply carrying your own drink. But be discreet while taking a swig. You do not want to be escorted off the casino floor because you are drinking alcohol from a hip flask! Be careful, go to the rest room frequently, or maybe step out of the casino for a gulp. Either way, remember that you can always find your way out of little issues like these. Power to the Hip Flask!
